Judging by the posts, I'm happy to say that I don't really know Nancy Nigrosh (but rule - you should only be allowed to throw tantrums if people have heard of you - then it's eccentric) but by name, Jonathan Howard is so-well respected, as are Dave Leterman, Gary Gersh and the young gun in NY Ken Lee. Best of all - here's the funniest thing and, if I must say, ironic, part of this - Scott Harris is now that agency's biggest celebrity! Can you imagine the murmurs and stares the next time he's at lunch with his agents and clients? That'll be priceless.

I was started at about $5k lower than the guy who bailed from here and for the next two years all I heard about was "the 9/11" economy and some of these Hollywood companies are still spouting that cold plate of wisdom, laughably.

The assistant-salary equation of: young labor + marginal salary + humility in droves = assured reward sometime later in Xanadu is outmoded. People in this industry get rolled over all of the time and the new crop of assistants need to remember this. In a time where people making three times what an asst. makes are high-tailing it to Nevada, Texas and Georgia (ack!) because they can't afford L.A. rents, I think what the Innovative kids did is admirable. Innovative looks like a Dubai massage parlor to a lot of people in this business who started as assistants--and they are legion--and this didn't make the agency look good at all. Stay strong, don't get priced out of the game and stay stealth, y'all. Good for them for going public with it and sticking together. It's your career: do NOT get played.

When I was there we had to park 10 blocks away and be driven in by a shuttle van. One day I got very sick at work and was coughing up blood. I asked if I could get the shuttle van to drive me back to my car so I could go to the doctor. I was told NO, because it had nothing to do with company business. I walked the 10 blocks with bloody kleenexes in hand cursing that sorry bastard.
