"I was amused that even the blatantly pro-AMPTP Variety grudgingly admitted in its coverage of the deal that the WGA strike is what gave the DGA the necessary leverage to obtain concessions from the studios. All in all, I'm inclined to believe what other commenters have posted - that the studios wanted the strike to last long enough for them to invoke force majeure clauses and to make the writers really suffer - and only then would they make the kind of deal with the DGA that the WGA have been pushing for all along."
