Dakota Fanning Turns 12

dakota-turns-12.jpg
Twelve short years ago on this very day, Hollywood history was changed forever by the birth of Hannah Dakota Fanning, the pint-sized actress who in just over a decade of life has already left an indelible imprint on the craft of acting. Let's all share a warm smile while we reflect upon the child star's staggering list of accomplishments (Can play the violin! Knits scarves! Career survived co-starring with Tom Cruise!), knowing that somewhere Fanning's celebrating her special day by sitting in front of her birthday cake, patiently waiting for her mother to extinguish the candles with her face as a display of loyalty to her breadwinning daughter.

  • 12 years old, eh? Isn't that the age when world-wide star Shirley Temple was no longer cute and given the boot by FOX after "The Bluebird" flopped?

  • And we can't forget she kept a straight face while Sean Penn acted retarded.

  • How can Dakota Fanning be TWELVE? She looks 8, maybe 9. It's kinda creepy how "they" somehow keep child stars...childish.

  • 12 is a magical age in Hollywood. . . just ask Drew Barrymore.

  • is she in rehab yet?

  • MonkeyinDiapers -- but wasn't Shirley Temple actually 5 years older than "they" claimed her to be? I worry about Dakota's future. In three more years, she's going to be best friends with the Olsen twins and learning how to whore herself from Paris Hilton.

  • Twelve years old and her teeth still indicate that Ms. Fanning maintains a strict diet of Laffy Taffy. What the dil?

  • Just 6 more years...

  • Shirley left Fox in 1940 after 2 flops: The Bluebird (Oz it wasn't) and The Young People (which used clips of her in her younger cuter days). If you see her in those films - there is no way she was "5 years older" or 17. She looks 12. After Fox, she did some pre-teen MGM B-films but needed time to blossom and return later as an sweater girl ingenue in The Bachelor & The Bobby Soxer (1947). Sadly, she still acted in that pouty, baby voice.

  • It can't take more than a week on a Hollywood set these days for a child to lose his/her innocense. What mother could allow that to happen?
