This just in—an official statement from Rob Reiner on today's history-making California Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage:
ROB REINER SAME SEX MARRIAGE STATEMENT"Our nation was founded on the principle that all people are created equal. Today's decision is a huge step toward fulfilling that promise.
"Celebration is certainly called for, but the fight for equality is far from over."Court decisions may guarantee equality under the law, but the real struggle is for the tolerance of our fellow Americans.
"This decision by a majority-Republican court signals that it's time to put this kind of discrimination and bigotry behind us.
"Unfortunately, not everyone will hear the court's message. Already, here is a campaign being organized to overturn this decision at the ballot box. Californians must put an end to this sort of cynical and divisive politics once and for all.
"California has led our nation so many times before. I hope that once again we set an example that the nation will follow."
This concludes Meathead's statement on the California gay marriage ruling. Defamer Fun Fact: Rob Reiner is the spitting image of our Uncle Harvey, a dentist from Toronto. We're not even kidding! It's like they were separated at birth!

Rob is such a bear!
Laverne + Shirley - married at last!!
Goddam: after half a bottle of Cab Sauv, my snark is completely gone.
TEAM MEATHEAD.
The only reason to support P*r*z H*l*o*'s existence is the fact that he introduced the phrase "marriage equality" into the mainstream.
I'd totally do him. But first I'd bend Joel Silver over the bonnet of the Speed Racer car. Rob could take pictures while he waited for his turn!
Love the politics, very much hate the movies.
Is it so wrong, thinking that the bearish Rob Reiner is very hot and doable?
@raincoaster: Try drinking the other half!
"Our nation was founded on the principle that all people are created equal." - Except for the slaves, right?
I'm all for the legalization of same-sex partners (among other things) but I believe the real issue is that of insurance, rights of survivorship vis-a-vis Social Security benefits, IRA's, 401K's etc. etc. This is a great first step but we can't let it end here.
Yes we must allow dogs to marry cats.
@Benovite: Cats and dogs living together?! It'll be anarchy!
@raincoaster: Isn't the statement "marriage equality" kind of an oxymoron?
@CourageousCoward: ...except for the slaves and women.
@SanFranBetsu: Point being that Rob Reiner's statement was pure stupidity. "People" meaning wealthy, white Christian men.
@CourageousCoward: Duh, that's my point.
@Benovite: I wanna see the offspring. Cags? Dots? Cogs or Dats?
"Already, there is a campaign being organized to overturn this decision at the ballot box. Californians must put an end to this sort of cynical and divisive politics once and for all."
Yes, goddamn it!
Who the hell does the public think it is? They think they have the right to fucking vote on this? They dare to question the courts?
I agree with the court's decision, but who died and made Rob Reiner the mouthpiece of anything? He seems to regard himself as an expert on any number of issues, no matter how poorly thought-out and expressed his statements and policy plans may be.
How nice that he's on the right side this time. I'd light up a cigarette to celebrate, but, well, you know......
@Sir Winston Thriller: Yes, it is wrong. Because he's not, dude. Seriously. Take another look.
