Attention peace-loving residents of Franklin Village! Do you enjoy the speed and convenience with which you park your vehicles along nearby Canyon Drive? The fate of your parking now hangs in the balance—and do-gooding supercouple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are likely to blame. Two upcoming meetings—one at Hollywood Presbyterian Church and one at City Hall—will address the transformation of this once restriction-free parking Eden into a dreaded TPPD, or Temporary Preferential Parking District. Translation: Give up all hope ye who park here, you're going to come back to a ticket. The reason? According to grassroots parking activists franklinvillage.org, the TPPD is the direct result of a UMP, or Unusual Media Presence. Translation: Lets prevent those dirty paps from camping out outside the home of our gorgeous new neighbors, the Pitt-Jolies!
Protester Melanie Hughs told animalnewyork.com, "This was spurred by an alleged heavy paparazzi presence on the street because of the Pitts, but they're never here...The private homes all have driveways and the apartment buildings here, many don't have parking. Now we'll have more congestion on the streets, and get more tickets on street sweeping days." Damn you, Pitt-Jolies! The parking rich get richer, while the rest of us shmucks have to hike the three long blocks from our Koreatown apartment to our cars, only to find a $75 ticket on the windshield and a selection of surly men seated on the bumper, playing some El Salvadorian version of craps! (OK, we moved from that place three years ago, but we're still scarred from the experience.)

I am blind and can't read the street names. Is this near the UCB?
1) I still quite get a handle on when that stretch of Franklin became a "Village" and how it happened. (Some time late 2007 is my best guess.)
2) Is this the reason why the Mayfair just became a "Gelsons". (Sure it was always owned by Gelsons, but they just Gelsified the joint much to everyone's dismay.)
3) They built on the private drive? Does this mean we're no longer going to see the cute Whitford-Kaczmarek's around anymore?
4) They're worried about this issue when they already give up so much parking to flat-out dangerous parking valets around Birds?
(Man, I never realized I was so upset at the Franklin Village area. Thank god for the Beachwood Market.)
Those mother fuckers!
Parking already sucks ass, I don't need more cars competing with me for a parking spot because they can't park on Canyon! (My apartment Building was built in the '20's and those assholes didn't include a parking garage in the plans for some reason).
@TheStarterWife: I totally agree. Mayfair sucks since the "Gelsifying" remodel & there's no reason Birds needs any of that valet space to steal spots from residents.
@heidiho: Ha! Exactly my first thought.
Ah fuck it, I always have to valet there, anyway.
@TheStarterWife: The WeHo Mayfair got Gelsified the second the property values skyrocketed. Upside: their service kicks Pavilions a** to the permit-parking-only curb (and remember to angle your wheels in WeHo or get the big ticket.)
Beachwood Market is the best!
I've been bummed ever since the valet at the Poub went from $3.50 to $7.00 thanks to the comedy stylings at UCB. Not bummed enough to stop spending retarded amounts of time there, but bummed nevertheless.
Two things:
1) Do they really think the paps obey any kind of laws? These guys run lights, run over pets, kill seals and wear burberry scented pelts in order to get the pics they want.
This.will.not.deter.them.
2) I'm glad I don't live in that area anymore(although I do miss the cool vibe).
I had heard rumors months ago that there was a movement in the neighborhood council to restrict parking on Canyon because the crowd the UCB attracts is too disruptive. Since this argument has been going on for sometime, and because I have NEVER seen a Paparazzi in the area, it's my suspicion that the yuppies on the counsel are trying to discourage people from coming to the UCB. This whole UMP thing looks like an easy excuse to keep "rowdy" comedy nerds from taking the extra parking spot Council members normally save for their extra cars.
@QuadeIphigenia: Never seen a pap in the area?
You really should go to the Gelsified-Mayfair more.
