I'm sorry, but I think you're all very wrong. I think Shayne really did fall in love with Matt (and vice versa, considering the finale!). If she had any other intentions, like getting some attention, then she would have just said no when he proposed. I think her dad was just making sure Matt had considered this and decided against it before he grew more and more attached to her.

I happen to have liked Shayne very much. I'm glad he picked her.
