Katie Holmes And Victoria Beckham Leverage The Buddy System In Order To Stay Thin

poshkatie.jpgThough hearing about some of the scary diet tactics used by stars last month was unnerving, the names associated with the far from healthy tips weren't earth-shattering: Nicole Richie, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are commonly featured in the weeklies when chatter of weight loss methods comes up. But the highbrow BFF team that is Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham isn't the standard source of speculation. Sure, they're incredibly thin despite pregnancies, but they've so far managed not to be outed when it comes to specific Desperately Seeking Thinness claims. But after a recent sighting at Madeo, Katie and Posh have officially topped the "scary" list of celebs who use outlandish methods when it comes to staying skinny...

As Life & Style reports in its latest cover story, the pair has a habit of ordering one incredibly low-calorie meal and splitting it, and even use the same trick when it comes to beverages. On a recent outing, "the two split a meal meant for one person, sharing a green salad sans dressing, one piece of fish and one side of steamed spinach. They also ordered one regular Coke and two glasses of ice." We don't know about you, but the last time we had the entirety of a meal like that, we were still starving. The worst part? According to one source, it's a practice Katie and Posh have been using for a while. L&S quotes a fellow regular at Madeo as saying, "They do it all the time. It's how they control calories." We suppose the only good news here is that the pair isn't resorting to laxatives and quick stops in the emergency room, yet. But as anyone who finds themselves staring into the abyss that is Posh's waistline after each new photo of her appears, we aren't completely surprised to hear that the Sherri Shephard voodoo doll doesn't exactly gulp down burgers and fries on a regular basis.

  • I don't believe it -- what woman drinks regular Coke?

  • Posh: frown on a stick
    Katie: skinny young boy

  • Considering that Posh can walk by a glass window and cut it with the sharpness of her features, I'm not surprised.

  • @RocketRockit: I do.
@Oxytone: I'm thinking Sherry Shepherd may be looking good to Becks. More cushion for the pushin.

  • I'm not saying that they are not grossly thin, but that photo has not been reduced to its correct dimensions. Looks like a fun house mirror, certainly without the fun.

  • @SanFranBetsu: I wonder if tapping Posh's ass is like trying to get off on floor covered in marbles?

  • Isn't there something to the psychology of anorexia that you control food because it's one of the only things you can control? That and getting hair cuts and shopping at Barney's. Right, Katie?

  • In their defense, American serving sizes tend to be insanely big. Course, since I've never been to a high class restaurant, I don't know if it's still true at those places. I'm assuming they're smaller, but really, isn't there a massive amount of diet tips that basically equate to: "Don't eat your full meal, just eat half of it."

In which case, this really isn't scary, it might be a bit 'low brow' as they're sharing instead of just ordering a meal each and only eating half, but that only tells me that these girls are more practical than you're average gazillionaire. [And yes, I know 'practical' is not the word to describe Posh, but here it seems to fit.]

  • I've never seen a frowny-faced skeleton like the one on the left before. Is Katie telling her that if she joins the CO$, she too can be followed around by ghostly, translucent beings like the one behind them?

  • Regular Coke? (Gasp!) That must have at least 75 calories!

Is it me, or is Katie Holmes dressing more and more like a 50-year-old these days? She needs to trade wardrobes with the cast of Desperate Housewives.

  • @aspiringexpatriate: Admittedly, it is a technique picked up from septuagenarian ladies out on a lunch date. Next Posh and Katie will be showing up for the early bird specials at IHOP.

  • @Sweet Panda Love: And dyeing their hair various shades of steely purple!

  • I have been thinking about this a lot. Why do they drink watered-down regular Coke? Why don't they just drink Diet Coke? No calories in that. Hollyweird, indeed.

  • Meanwhile James Van Der Beek drinks 2 liters of Coke and eats WHOLE meals with no one to go halvsies with.

  • Maybe when Pushy and the Beard dealt up their Richard Simmons 'deal-a-meal' hands the cards said "small portions, all the beverage you want, and a sensible spoon for dessert."

  • @Whiteboyfunfark: For some reason, I find the words "Richard Simmons" and "sensible spoon" to be vaguely disturbing when used in the same sentence.

  • Oh and what's up with that belt on Posh? Looks like it could be used as a sling to transport a whale onto a ship.

  • @dutchtreat: More importantly how the hell does it stay up without any hips to support it? The liberal use of a staple gun would go a long way to explain the look on her face.

@aspiringexpatriate: No, a high-end restaurant serving a salad with one piece of fish is NOT overserving. Those studies are talking about Applebees, etc.

  • All the more reason to believe that Katie Holmes did not run that marathon. Her behavior was extremely suspicious, and now we find out that she eats only a few bites of food per day.

  • @RocketRockit: The coke was obviously their luxuriously decadent treat for dessert. Sad thing is that's probably not as ridiculous as it sounds...

  • I am having a hard time calling their habit unhealthy. As an earlier post said, restaurant portions are huge. We are also told that rather than eliminating the things we like, like sugar, from our diet altogether, we should indulge with restraint and only have a small portion. So if this wasn't Posh and Katie, but Dr. Oz on Oprah instead, we would be taking it as good advice for weight loss. I'm glad they ordered regular and not diet Coke, because it shows that they're actually indulging their sweet tooth in moderation. So on its own, this event is not reason to brand anyone as an anorexic. Whether Posh or Katie do indeed have this or another condition is unknown to me, but what this story says is that their weight plays a huge part in their life and career, and they are trying really hard to control it. I don't think they're enjoying the process anymore than we would, and they would probably prefer to be eating their own plates of carbonara rather than splitting a salad. They're actresses/celebrities however, who, as much as they like having their picture taken, they know that it's only good when they look good.

  • When Katie was on the Creek, it was a set-wide joke that she was never without a diet coke in her hand. So yay for Posh's influence?
