While the rest of us may be dealing with the last gasp of winter or stressed over the impending recession and escalating gas prices or wondering why that person we met last weekend never called, Academy Award winner Javier Bardem and Academy Award nominee Penelope Cruz have a best solution to all of our problems, fears and concerns. Just go to the south of France, hang out, and just read a good book. Your cares and concerns will just melt away as you work on your tan. When you look good, you'll feel good, you know?

It looks like Javier is reading a book written by his charachter from No Country For Old Men.
I just appreciate the shadiness of the photog. Do you think the branches in the pic are actually attached to his green "journalist" cap?
I see Jor-El has gone from putting his wisdom into crystal kindles to hardbacks.
@JudgeFudge: That looks like Marlon Brando to me ... three brownie points (and one of those fancy commenter stars!) to whomever can figure out what book Javier is reading first.
Good think I checked. I was trying to figure out a) why Nicole Ritchie was reading and b) why her man was starting to resemble Javier Bardem.
think = thing. It's odd when typos occur between keys that aren't close to each other.
The photo on the book looks like Dan Rather to me, but I can't find a back cover image on Amazon to match.
Pretty sure that's the Brando autobiography, Songs My Mother Never Taught Me...or something like that.
In other photos, it's much easier to see that it's the Brando book. I know why didn't I pick one of those pictures?
Are they really reading, or are they just that good at acting?
Is that a teleprompter next to Penelope?
Those conversations must be excruciating
@OldTowneTavern: Ha! I thought it was Nicole Ritchie too! And I also wondered why she was reading! Great minds!
I guess all the lollipop heads start to look alike after a while!
@Douglas Reinhardt: @Sulky Girl:
You guys are right, it's the Brando autobiography. A better picture showing Javier and the front cover is here
Brando makes much more sense than Dan Rather anyway. Is it my fault all the crazy old white guys look alike?
The real question is: libros, libres, or books?
I'm glad that movie stars also need to deal with the annoyance of reading books in bright sunlight. I thought the laws of physics might favor them over average people.
Here is the section Javier was reading when the photo was taken -
"Worst of all, [Charlie Chaplin] treated his son Sydney, who played my sidekick, cruelly. In front of everybody, he humiliated him constantly: 'Sydney, you're so stupid! Don't you have enough brains to know to place your hand on a doorknob? You know what a doorknob is, don't you? All you do is turn the knob, open the door and enter. Isn't that easy, Sydney?"
Penelope, on the other hand, was reading this -
"I am glad that I really understand now in the most personal ways, why a feminist revolution will be good for men and boys. I am not talking about switching to a matriarchy and replacing one form of hierarchy with another. No, men have to make this journey with us. But it's harder for them."
[from Jane Fonda's Words of Politics and Passion]
The pages of Penelope's book look blank. Why, this is as staged as a Heidi Montag / Spencer Pratt "candid"!
Cos Spanish is the first language of each of these Spaniards I'm guessing the teleprompter isn't nethe-th-thary. Her bod is hot and I officially hate rich bastards more than I have for at least 20 minutes since I mistakenly forgot to throw vinegar in my eyes and caught a glimpse of the media-whore 'The Hills' couple.
@Sulky Girl: Nice work, enjoy your star!
