Oh sweet Jebus, that's sad.
*sniffles*
Horrible. I'm flooded with memories of Bop, Big Bopper, and Tiger Beat circa 1995. He had talent, and he lost it all to drugs.
There's lots of things on this earth that qualify as being a damned shame, and this is one of them. Renfro had some real chops, and it's just a sad pass--no other way to look at it. RIP.
Loved Apt Pupil.
(And it turns out that Graham is psychic.
@TheStarterWife: I was thinking the same. *shudders* Crack is whack, no doubt about it.
"I'm not betting against the possibility that I would've seen Brad Renfro wandering around the lobby had I stayed there a few more days."
Eerie coincidence or diabolical conspiracy?
As a teenager, I LOVED Brad Renfro - this was a kid who at like 15 managed to portray deep emotions as Huckleberry Finn opposite Jonathan Taylor Thomas in a lightweight Disney flick. And it all too obviously came from a painful childhood....so, no shocker, but SUCH a loss. Same age as James Dean when he died.
so sad. he was great in "ghost world" too.
they say that only the good die young,
but that ain't true where i come from...
How much drugs do you have to do to OD?! - or do these people have a existing health concern and the chems just push them over the edge. I'll go ask Leif Garrett and Tom Sizemore. I know where they are
Fuckin hell that's so sad. He was way too vulnerable for this business to start with and those who should have known better, mr director, enabled him for reasons I don't even want to think about. Hope he finds some peace now.
damn. :(
Seems like Tom Cruise is never around when you need him.
@TheStarterWife: and @l.a.guy: Freaked me out, too.
@secretagentman: Are you talking about Bryan Singer?
First Jonathan Brandis, now Brad Renfro...sad. This kid always had problems, he jacked a yacht like five years ago in Fort Lauderdale (as if being in Ft. Lauderdale wasn't bad enough). Seriously, issues.
@Uncle Grambo: Or Joel Schumacher?
"He's dead Jim"
@Moimeme: Good catch. It's always a shock when someone so young dies, and when it's someone who seems to have everything going for them it really makes you question ... everything.
I know he wasn't trying to kill himself, but damn, think of the risks other people get away with for decades!
What a talented, tormented guy. I can never watch "The Client" without balling my eyes out at the end, and I've seen it many, many times.
RIP, Brad. Love ya.
@Uncle Grambo: Eerie.
...and at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter takes a closer look at his list. "Renfro, B.? Nope, no Renfro. But we do have an Efron, Z. Bum appendix. That's not you? Oh, my. Can you just wait here a sec?"
R.I.P.
(But WTF?)
@Uncle Grambo: Any questions you have about Bryan Singer's proclivities can be answered by watching the locker room shower scene in Apt Pupil. As for the movie, I say this in all seriousness, but it's still the best thing Singer has ever done. It takes some kind of twisted freak to make a campy movie about the Holocaust.
@Moimeme: Terribly tragic indeed, and such a waste on so many levels. (Oh, and James Dean died at 24.)
@secretagentman: Or Larry Clark? Much as I love his movies, Clark's a good bet.
Either way, this is pretty fucking sad.
@Raybay: My money's on Larry Clark for that obscure reference above as well. Brad Renfro was my fantasy man after watching various movies, but I will say I thought he was hottest in Bully.
Sad to hear.
@Uncle Grambo: Yep, Singer.
Sad but not unexpected.
God damn, I loved that kid.
@DaeSu: Tragic, sad...and south of Olympic to boot...
